Help us raise $2,500 to bring Black writers together in the woods this October.
This fall, Valley Society will host our first Autumn writing retreat—a weekend in the woods filled with walks, shared meals, and quiet time to write. It will be a turning point in our journey, and we need your help to make it possible.
We’re raising $2,500 to cover the cost of cabin rental, food, supplies, and guest facilitation. If we exceed our goal, any remaining funds will go directly toward supporting next year’s autumn retreat.
What your gift supports:
- Lodging for a 3-day, 2-night retreat in a quiet natural setting
- Healthy, shared meals each day
- Yoga and reflection practices
- Two Daily Writing workshops using the Amherst Writers & Artists method
- Instruction and Materials for Grinnell Field Notes
- Transportation support for participating writers
- Materials and fieldwork supplies
Why it matters
Your support ensures this retreat remains accessible to those who need it most. Every contribution brings us closer to the circle.
For Black writers in the Pioneer Valley, this retreat is more than a weekend getaway—it’s a rare space to step away from daily pressures and recommit to the writing life. We’ll walk the land together, share what we’re working on, and hold space for each other’s voices.
[Valley Society is a committee of Straw Dog Writers Guild.
Goal: $2,500
Deadline: End of September
Thank you for supporting Black writers in the Valley. We can’t wait to write, walk, and reflect together.
